Cabling and Installation

Attention hazardous voltage!

Work on electrical installations, in particular mains voltage cables and connections should only be carried out by appropriately trained and qualified professionals!

Loxone recommends to use Cat7 cable throughout the installation, however, there are other options.

  • For connection of switches, Loxone Tree, etc. there are reports of Cat5 cable being perfectly adequate (see cable discussion Loxone English).

  • French VDI standards, Grade 3 and Grade 3s surpass Cat7 performance in regards to frequency spectrum carried. Using either grade allows for RF transmission of FM/TV signals (Grade 3) and Satellite signals (Grade 3s) via the same cable. Cat7a cable is roughly equivalent to French VDI Grade 3, having 1000Mhz spectrum (Cat7 specification is 600Mhz).

Loxone Cat7 cable appears to actually be Cat7a as it has a 1000Mhz frequency rating.
